From Publishers Weekly
Novelist Young (Blood Bayou) continues her romantic suspense specialty in her second book for an evangelical Christian imprint. The book loses no time in setting up its central and painful premise: six-month-old baby Max is kidnapped during the chaos of a New Orleans Mardi Gras. Mom Jane, dad Kyle, and teen stepsister Melanie must deal with the heart-wrenching, guilt-burdened aftermath, and they don't do it well. The crime element of the plot waits in the wings as the dysfunctional family drama plays out with a twist. Young doesn't begin weaving the villain into the action until fairly late in the book, leaving the narrative a little unbalanced as it shifts gears from domestic drama to crime suspense. The central relationship of Jane and Kyle is tense and emotionally credible; less credible is the volatile teenager Melanie, who makes a number of pivotal choices throughout the story. The faith elements are neither intrusive nor formulaic, and Young's dialogue characteristically crackles. Though this is not as strong as her previous outing, Young will continue to please her many readers.

"Missing Max"
By Stars
Missing Max is a very compelling story line. Although fictional, the plot is very believable. In real life, your child can be kidnapped when you least expect it. Child abduction is a constant concern of parents. As much as it was about a missing child, it was also about faith.

Karen Young went right to the heart of the plot in the first chapter when Max was kidnapped on Mardi Gras Day in New Orleans. Jane Madison went to get some food for Melanie and her friend. Sixteen-year old Melanie was to watch her six-month old brother Max until her mother return. Consequently with all the excitement going on, and being sidetracked with the parade, Melanie turned around both Max and his stroller were gone.

Jane called her husband Kyle who was at work, and told him that Max was missing. Kyle arrived in New Orleans. He wasn't any comfort to Jane or Melanie. Kyle was very critical of Jane; blaming her for getting food for Melanie and her friend. N.O.P.D. found the stroller, but there was no sign of Max.

The character role Kyle portrayed was hard to like. He was self-centered and it was all about him and his needs. Kyle became a workaholic. He would come home late at night. Jane never knew when to expect him. Jane and Kyle were both successful lawyers. Jane wasn't able to keep up with her work load at her law firm. She was spending too much time as a volunteer in Child Search. Their marriage wasn't going very well. Kyle told Jane he needed space and moved into another bedroom. Jane in her roles as mother and wife was a good and kind-hearted person. She wasn't a religions person, but she wondered why God would put her through so much pain, losing her baby and having her family fall apart.

I highly recommend Missing Max. It was a very touching story about a missing child and how Jane's faith was restored. The last chapter was emotional for me. If you get an opportunity to read Missing Max. I believe you will enjoy it as much as I have.

A Wonderful Book That Squeezes Your Heart
By Molly~Cafinated Reads
Wow. What can I tell you about this book, other than I loved it? Well, I can tell you that the author is talented, one that really knows how to draw her readers in to the story completely, wrap them up with the messages and mystery and take them on a roller coaster of a ride filled with many, many emotions. I loved the feeling that brought to me.

I must confess, though, that this book really was an emotional one for me. I am a single mom of two boys who are my entire world and to imagine either of them missing for even a minute, tears my heart to pieces! Once I started reading this story, I didn't want to put this down until I found out about Max. And the poor family. I was praying for them and struggling with their emotions as if it was all happening to me. The true-to-life events that the author portrayed through her words were absolutely fantastic. It is just amazing when an author can completely surround me (or any reader!) with their words and take my heart on an emotional roller coaster to the point of leaving me in utter awe of their work.

Do I recommend this story? Absolutely. Do I give it 5 stars? Absolutely. Do I think you should open your heart first and foremost and ask God to guide your through this book? Most definitely, as the story line, the emotion and the turmoil you will feel through out this book is beyond words. Well done, Karen and I look forward to more work from you!

A Pleasure to Read
By S. Tunnell
I read this book within a 24 hour period and really enjoyed it. Karen did a great job with characterization and plot. I was sent this book as a free gift and I put off reading it until the summer mainly because this isn't the type of book I typically read. However, I found that I could relate to the characters and I was captivated by devestating impact a kidnapping could have on a family. I enjoyed watching the slow growth of the characters throughout the novel.
